A few people have asked what is State Highway doing at the intersection of MD 198 and Riding Stable Road. We asked and received the following response:
"The improvements of this project involves full depth widening of WB MD 198 (Sandy Spring Road) at Riding Stable Road intersection to extend the existing deceleration lane from 300 ft. to a 500 ft. in length. The acceleration lane will consists of a 6 ft. width bike lane and a 12 ft. width right turn lane.
"Additional work include grinding and resurfacing Riding Stable Road for approx. 150 ft. as well as installing new intersection lightings at Riding Stable Road and across on MD 198 [note that 'lighting' refers to streetlights for night visibility, not a traffic control signal].
"Along the eastbound MD 198 approaching the intersection, a new bio-swale will be constructed to accommodate roadway water run-off from MD 198. New trees planting, tree root pruning, installing/replacing traffic barriers W-Beam & end treatments, and installing new signing & pavement markings will be also be part of the project.
"Ms. Dorey Uong is the project manager for the improvements. I’ve cc’d her on this response, but you can reach her directly at ****@sha.state.md.us or by phone at 301-513-7390."
