We have heard that this morning there may have been another fatal accident on MD 198 in Burtonsville. Our thoughts are prayers are with the victims and families.
People have been asking for updates on our efforts to petition the State Highway Administration to make MD 198 safer. Below is a summary of what we've been doing over the past few weeks.
On Tuesday, February 28, we held a community workshop at the Praisner Library to discuss and vote on our preferred roadway design for MD 198 in Burtonsville.
A few days after the workshop, we met to analyze the feedback.
You can see the feedback for yourself by clicking the images below. Click the images to zoom in.
This option proposes keeping MD 198 the way it currently is. Feedback was overwhelmingly negative.

Now that we have a clear idea of the community's concerns and preferences, the Coalition to Fix MD 198 is now drafting the following documents:
1. A position statement outlining the community's vision for a safer and more attractive MD 198 in Spencerville and Burtonsville.
2. A petition addressed to the Maryland State Highway Administration calling for specific improvements to MD 198.
3. A petition addressed to the Montgomery County Executive and Department of Transportation calling for specific improvements to Burtonsville.
Please enter your email address on the homepage of www.fix198now.com to be notified once the position statement is ready!
